Default Phal diagnosis - is this bacterial rot

This is my Dad's new(ish) Phal Amabilis.

I think its got bacterial soft rot, just checking that I'm correct. Should he really chop off the entire diseased area of the leaf?

Where was this plant located when that happened? Based on the looks of those spots and especially the location on the leaves, my first thought was sunburn. It happens all too easily with new plants that were not acclimated to direct sun, and in that case even a short period of direct sun can quickly burn the leaves.

If this is really bacterial rot, you'll likely notice it spreading quite a bit day by day. In that case, removing the affected parts (taking a rather wide margin of healthy tissue with it) is the best course of action.

My first thoughts agree with Camille's. If this just happened, and the damaged areas don't get larger, you will likely see them turn to a stiff, parchment-like texture.

The best course of action is to wait and see. If it's truly a burn, there's nothing you can do anyway.

Thanks, I think he has now cut the leaves off but I had already asked whether it could possibly be sunburn so I guess the answer to that was "no"
