Talking Possible Virus Infection in New Orchids? Or am I going crazy...

Hi all!

I recently purchased this Miltoniopsis Maui Mist 'Golden Gala', and when I opened up the box I was greeted with these mottled leaves! Does this look like virus to you or just a deficiency/malady I am unaware of?

Thanks

I do not think the patterned leaves is normal for these. I found a different clone of your orchid shown in a video with perfectly green leaves:

As for it being a virus, I cannot say. I would keep it away from your other orchids until you know for certain. Here is a helpful website that I hope will help you. You can even send this orchid society questions with pictures:

All right, thanks! Isn't it just lovely! I was planning on keeping this one in a different room for light requirements anyway so it is isolated. We will see what happens after I feed it something with high manganese or iron.

You can try watering with epsom salts. 1tbsp per gallon.

Only way to be sure is to test it for virus. Orchid leaves can be blemished for a variety of reasons other than viruses. Also virused plants can have no symptoms at all.

Best to act like everything is infected and sterilize your tools and other items before use.
