Most lithophytes actually root into the detritus that collects in the cracks of rocks, then additional roots may spread onto the rock itself. That bit of organic matter, and moisture that it holds are important. If you wanted to try the lithophyte approach, perhaps the same regimen that works for rupiculous Laelias would also work for this Den. kingianum. A terracotta pot works nicely for this. Put some small gravel in the bottom of the pot. Then a very thin layer of sphagnum, then about 1-1.5 cm of a loose potting soil (the sphag keeps the soil from washing out), then fill in to the top of the pot with more gravel. That bit of soil mimics the material in the crevices of rocks. This arrangement is nearly impossible to overwater, but holds enough moisture to keep the plant happy.
