It's alive and it looks like it might have some tiny new growths but its main bulb appears to be rotting at the base.
The leaves look happy enough and there appear to be some healthy roots amongst the rotting ones but I'm seriously concerned for this plant. It had a large bulb in the middle that turned black, so I cut it off. The plant seemed to tolerate that just fine but now the larger of the two bulbs left is also turning dark at the base. Should I be cutting that off too? I'm worried that if I do, there'll be nothing to support the plant.
Also, I trimmed some of the supermoist/rotting roots thinking it would help but I suspect I may have taken off some viable roots along with the bad.
Is there anything I can do to coddle this plant back to health, particularly now that winter's here?
