Angraecum sesquipedale buds dying
Hello, dear colleagues,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post, although, I’ve been reading posts on this forum for quite a while. I tried looking for the answers to my problem online, but there is nada, or I just don’t google it correctly.
Anyway, I am really desperate in the search of what is happening to my Angraecum sesquipedale. I was dying to have this plant and finally got it from an excellent grower from Hawaii already with some buds. At first, it was doing well, the buds were plumping and growing, but then all of a sudden, the bottom of the spur on buds started to get black and soft, and this blackening spreads to the buds and they die one by one. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, and since this is my first time growing this A (and the fact that I am just an amateur, growing orchids on a windowsill in gloomy northeast US), I would really appreciate any advice or insight.
As I mentioned, I live in the northeast US, growing everything on a windowsill (east window), with humidity about 70-80. I fertilized it once since I got it with a weak solution.
I am attaching pics here. You can see some of the buds are already gone; some are just starting to blacken. Thank you!

When did you recieved it from the vendor?
This is a warm to hot growing plant and it may be stressed due to the journey and environment change.
I believe it's not a good idea to buy plants with buds/flowers 'cause there's a high probability to lose them.

Received it in March and it was fine at the beginning. Weird that a month and a half later it started experiencing stress.
I know, but I REALLY wanted to see the flower and was afraid that I won’t be able to bloom it myself.

In the 70s in the day time, but now it’s getting warmer. In the upper 60s at night.

61 F is the lowest temp you should tolerate. Probably it stressed over the change in temps. In Haway it must be warmer than that.
And did you repot it when you recieved it?

I am sure it is much warmer in Hawaii 😉, but that’s the best I can get.
No, I did not. I know it doesn’t like to be disturbed, plus it was already in bud, so I was afraid to lose the buds (which I am losing anyway 😩 . Also, it came with perfectly OK media, so I wasn’t even going to repot it in the near future.

If the only bad sign is bud loss, and everything else seems ok, I wouldn't worry and accpet the bud loss.

Like the others said, it was probably the transport. Even though it’s mild in Hawaii and mild where you are, it probably crossed some colder temperatures to get to you. The whole U.S. was still getting those awful snow storms in late April...
Plus these things can take a while to show signs of anything: growth, buds, bud blast, rot, dying. They can be slow to do everything. One question. You said you are growing on a windowsill, is it 80% humidity inside your house or is that the outside humidity reading?
