I'd also never heard of these pests, and had to google. WOWZA! AND they promote scale insects. Double Wow.

What about those little parasitic wasps they are saying are effective from the Christmas Island experiments? Would that be something available to you? If memory now serves, it's from the Trichogramma genus.

I know we can buy lady bugs and praying mantis here for certain buggy control; I've successfully used lady bugs for aphid control when I had a water garden store.

If you have any idea where the queens are located, you could pour liquid Sevin into the egg-laying locations to eliminate them. This would require observing the ants or hiring professionals to find these locations. As it IS a contact poison, if you have frequent rain, it will need to be applied after each rain until the ants are gone.

I am not a fan of using pesticides but, sometimes, it is the only solution and Sevin tends to be ground zero for everything but spidermites.

Ants are very difficult to eliminate because they easily migrate. If you are fortunate to eliminate the ants from your property, you will need to continue to do all you can to prevent new ones from replacing them.

Have not tried Amdro yet. The Bayer Max Force Fipronil has not been of interest to them! I've hesitated to use much poison around the vanilla. I did spread some Terro Ant granules but again, no interest that is evident. It did seem to work on some little fire ants though.

Thanks to everyone for ideas. If you learn of a sure fire way to destroy the buggers, let me know!
