There are very few things I regret not buying.
There is a wonderful souvenir shop at Picacho Peak on Interstate 10 in southern Arizona, 2/3 of the way from Phoenix to Tucson. There is also a Dairy Queen in the same shop. Many Arizonans stop there for a concrete (a type of ice cream dessert.)
The shop has a huge range of junk - scorpions in plastic paper weights, fake Kachina dolls, T-shirts, moccasins, pottery, cheap jewelry, fireworks.
And coffee mugs. Years ago they had a coffee mug with the words "For my best friends" on the outside. Inside, molded in ceramic on the bottom, was a huge, extremely life-like cockroach.
Picacho Peak is also the site of the
westernmost battle of the US Civil War, April 15, 1862. A re-enactment is held each year.
