Oncidium intergen strange leaf issues...input?
So, I’ve had this happenin some shape or form to a few leaves over the past few months to two of these plants. They’re actually a pair that were a singe plant divided. Every so often, a lead will have this happen, and I watch it, treat the plants with a misting of Inocucor regularly, have been periodically watering with Kelpmax, but this still happens! Just one leaf, the damage grows til I cut the leaf off to avoid damaging the pseudo somehow, then nothing more for a bunch of weeks.
Obviously, it can be difficult to tell from pics, but I hope someone has experienced something similar?

I think you are just seeing the plant getting ready to shed the oldest leaf on a mature pseudobulb, especially this time of year. (I think you are referring to the browning on the leaf) Force of nature. I think I see another growth with the leaf somewhat crinkled (like it had difficulty unfolding. If that is going on, it can be due to insufficient water as the growth was emerging. No harm to plant, but a bit unaesthetic and a sign of less-than-ideal culture.

Well, I’m inclined to agree! I just noticed another leaf that I’d trimmed some similar-looking stuff off a few days ago had completely dried up!
Thanks for confirming and assuaging my fears!

What is the hybrid? Those are pretty broad leaves for oncidiums....

Not sure, it’s an intergeneric from Trader Joe’s. I thought it was an onc. hybrid. I’m open to any opinions, lol!
Here it is in bloom.

I'm thinking, from the flower, that it actually a Zygo-family hybrid (like a Zygonisia, which is Zygopetalum x Aganisia) Not necessarily the same hybrid , but related... check out http://orchidcentral.org/Images/Zygo...20Cynosure.jpgZygonisia Cynosure The flower shape, lip shape, and the color give it away.
These tend to want to grow a little warmer than Zygos, since the Aganisia part is a definite warm grower. If one of those, probably wants to grow more like a Phalaenopsis.

How much light, water and what temps? I agree with Roberta, it's in the Zygo family. It's helpful if we know your growing conditions.

Yep, a zygo hybrid. Grow it cooler and a bit shadier than oncidiums.

Looks like Tsubotaara (Tst.), which is, Aganisia X Pabstia X Zygopetalum. Look at Tst. Melinda Marie, there are few different varieties of it. The problem with the leaf is probably related to not enough water or humidity. We keep ours in wet moss (not soggy) all the time and that seems to keep the leaf issues away. We grow it like our oncidiums but a little wetter all year. It can take warmer conditions than true zygopetalums, the summer temps can reach 100F in the shade here and has not effected it.
Ours is Tst. Melinda Marie ‘Blue Moon’
