Orchids in Danger!?? Male
Default Orchids in Danger!??

My orchids have recently developed brown spots and on some of the leaves a white coating. I have only been growing orchids but have already aquired about 5 and don't want to lose any of them. Here are some pictures of what the spots look like

Hi Photoguy,

The first photos are what looks like bacterial spotting to me. I would treat these leaves with a fungicide if you don't cut them off.
You can pretty much avoid this by keeping the leaves dry by nightfall, or not letting them stay wet in cool weather. Its basicly bacteria that got into an open wound.
The last photo looks like mite damage, which might explain the open wounds that got infected.
Might try to get some safer soap for the mites. I think its false spider mites that you have on that last pic, they cause silver colored pitting in the leaves.
If you treat both issues your plants should be ok.
Hope this helps!

Have experienced spots like that when bright sun shines thru a water droplet. I so its not too serious but you need to let plants dry before the sun gets too bright.
It could be a bacterial spot if so cut out the spot with a sterile razor blade and sprinkle the cut out area with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Dont use the same razor blade on more than one plant if you do this.
