HELP! Dendrobium Fire Wings (Big Alex x Silver Wings) with modeling and leaf spots
Default HELP! Dendrobium Fire Wings (Big Alex x Silver Wings) with modeling and leaf spots

My Den. Fire Wing is finily finally blooming but it seems to have developed some modeling and light brown spots on the leaves. One of them came off and I'm trying really hard to figure out what this is. I went ahead and sprayed it with a fungicide but I am just not sure what I am dealing with! Help!
The plant is 75% Latouria 25% Phalaenopsis type if that makes any difference.

It looks like that leaf came off one of the older canes, so it may just be an aging leaf that was destined to die. The newer leaves look fine. As long as that continues, I wouldn't worry.

Nice plant!

What is your temperature range? Humidity range? How much light does it get? What is the condition of the medium in the pot? Do you let it get dry between waterings? Is this happening with all the leaves, or only the ones on the oldest pseudobulbs? Have growing conditions changed substantially recently?

Humidity stays between 50 + 60% temperature stays between 75 and the daytime and 65 at night. It is in a south facing window with a blind and a supplemental grow light. The light is just a clip-on set far back from the plant. The media in the pot looks good it was repotted approximately a year ago. As far as changes are concerned it was recently moved from a greenhouse on the big island of Hawaii to a in home environment in Portland Oregon it also had to go through a mandatory chemical soak before I could be legally brought to the mainland. So if you're asking if the plant has been stressed recently the answer would be yes. It is been here in Portland for about 2 weeks initially showing no signs of stress. It has no withering canes or Bud blast. The spotting started to appear about 1 to 2 days ago that I really noticed but I've been very busy so it could have showed some sign before that.

For some reason I can only see your first image on Imgur.

If this is only leaves on the old pseudobulbs, the recent stress would be the explanation. When this kind of Dendrobium is consistently very happy it keeps its leaves for 3-4 years. When it isn't very happy it drops older leaves quite quickly. It's like work - one OH SHUCKS! wipes out hundreds of ATTABOYs!

Also, these Latouria types are very intolerant of drying out, especially when newly arrived. Don't let the medium go dry on this kind of Dendrobium unless you have very high ambient humidity.

This looks just like the spots on my Dendrobium that I just posted about - happens to all of mine, regardless of how I seem to care for them. Hopefully it's just stress and it will get better (for both our sakes!)
