Was that second set of pictures there the whole time? If it was, I didn't notice until just now haha.

But looking at the pictures from further back where you can see the whole plant, I feel more confident about saying it is sunburn. Those are the parts of the plant that you would expect to see sunburn (the most upward facing parts of the plant).

No they weren't there the whole time I decided to add them because I thought it would give better perspective😄

Ahh yes, it certainly did give better perspective. I think you probably just got the grow light too close to the plant. I grow my plants outside in the summer and in front of a south facing window in the winter, and I get plenty of light for my Cattleyas at that window in the winter, so you may not even need any supplemental lighting if you raise the blinds during the day.

I've just started experimenting with artificial light (I ran out of room at my window ), and I have fixtures with four T5 florescent bulbs in each fixture. I started out placing the plants about 10 inches away from the bulbs thinking that would be too far and I would gradually move them closer until I felt like they were in the right spot, but even at 10 inches away, the leaves are getting some nice purple coloration, so I'm not sure if I need to move them closer at all. If you choose to supplement the natural light, start with the light farther away than you think it should be, and you can always move it closer.

We don't get much sun here in the winter so I was trying out some grow lights to supplement the gray days! I guess I should be more careful!

What kind of grow light did you use? Some get hot and some don't.
