Just when I think everything's fine...I find this spot on one of my smaller phals leaf. This particular phal also has had an odd leaf ( not the Ieaf with the spot) that seems closed at its tip. It's actually been this way for several months, so I'm asking my fellow OBs to help with two separate issues here. Any ideas?
The photo that shows the spot is much blurrier than the spot actually is. The edges of the spot are very sharp and the spot itself is a deep flat brown color.
If the spot is dry and not spreading it is nothing to worry about. If it is spreading, remove the leaf at least an inch or so below the spot.
The partly folded leaf could be a response to slow growth in low humidity. Unless you see evidence of insects or mites in the area or it happens on a lot of new leaves it isn't a serious problem.
Oh good. I will take it! Humidity here in Vermont through the winter poses somewhat of a problem for me. So it could well be a humidity issue. Of course it is summer now and the humidity is in the upper 50s and 60s. But it may have suffered somewhat over the winter. All my other orchids have fared better.
