Well, we're already clear on the spider issue. I like cute snakes, but I obviously am opposed to the ones that can kill. And then I almost drowned when I was young, so I'm not a fan of water as well. . .

I was never afraid of bugs nor snakes. My parents didn't teach me about cold water. One year my hot water heater went out in July and I didn't have any money to replace it until November. I learned the cold water part.

What is really fun is to work in a very, very hot greenhouse and then come out of the greenhouse to find someone squirting everyone with a hose of cold water...to, of course, cool you down.

If the sluggo and everything else fails, use Sevin. It is ground zero for everything but mites. I use it as a last resort for my fruit trees (Japanese beetles) and it killed the bush snails when nothing else seemed to work. I only use it in emergencies, though.

First, I am on the same page with August. Even that cold hose doesn't sound like fun. However, as a farm child, other unmentionable things don't bother me.

Now, as to the Neem oil and Sevin: are you suggesting a drench for each? If so, for the Neem, what amount of oil to water. And this does not harm roots? I also flushed with hot tap water too.

Only use Sevin if nothing else works. Here is the sheet on the health effects:

I usually try natural methods before using pesticides. In my arsenal of stuff, Sevin is usually my last resort. I am having really good luck with diatomous earth for my plant collection. In the past, I have also gotten rid of some of the pest issues by soaking the pots, as you did. You could buy a few large storage bins and fill them up with water and soak your orchids.

I suggested Sevin as it works when nothing else will. I prefer not to use it when something else will be effective.

As for the option to cool down by hose, I opted for a glass of water, instead.
