another fungus, bacteria or fungus? post... on a mini catt

This is a mini catt I got recently in bud...

while the bud was developing it started getting black spots on bud... just opened to today and there are slight spots on flower... parents (l. alaorii, c. pumila, c. coccinea) don't have spots in flowers, so not genetic... have another clone and it bloomed also and doesn't have spots...

so what do you think? fungus? bacteria? or fungus?

I did talk to the grower, and he's saying it's most likely fungal. That was my thoughts as well. Just glad it's not viral. He also said it's seed grown so most likely not viral... not sure if that's a solid statement there, as I think virus can be spread throughout a growing area, but the usual color speaking is not evident...and black spots are really more a fungal thing, although bacterial as well if more sharp and sunken...

Since it's already affected the flower there's not much to be done but keep air flow up and dryer... coincidently it's been like 20% humidity and less here with some dry winds blowing int so that won't be a problem.

The plant itself is healthy so I'm not too worried, but I'll be keeping an eye on it... if/when it buds again I'll just have to keep air flow up and hopefully it won't repeat itself.

Great parent genetic contribution on this hybrid so hoping for the best...

the other one I have, by the way, turned out more pink... this one is more orange red, more my thing... so crossing fingers...

I had understood that viruses can be transmitted to seedlings. Also, unless the grower has a virus free collection, and you have a virus free collection, and it was never handled by anyone who might have had a plant virus on their hands...

You'll know more when you rebloom it, IMO

It doesn't look viral...as in color bleed. And it doesn't look bacterial or fungal. It's pigmented rather than the typical dark spotting of fungus and bacterial issues. At least on my screen it looks pigmented. I would hazard a guess that you could end up with some spotting/splotches on this particular plant. Strange as none of the parents are spotty but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities either. I've seen seedlings do all sorts of unexpected things. The next flowering will tell you more, for sure.

Great parents though...I would've taken a chance on this little one too.

Thanks Katrina, yeah the plant itself has spotting although not much but definitely looks more like pigment than damage so I think it could be possible some sort of genetic mishap for spots is expressed now... i wouldn't object as i like spottedness on things... lol... the grower has near pristine conditions so fungus or bacteria infection would probably be minor. (not to mention my conditions are almost always too dry) As for virus, again, no real color streaking here or streaking/pattern in leaves...

just have to hope for best next time it blooms.
