What's wrong with my Dendrobium leaves?
My Den. suzukii x Den. tobaense has been growing new leaves for a bit, but I recently noticed that the newest ones have some sort of damage (the older ones are fine). Does this look like damage from some sort of pest or disease? It has a new little cane growing, so I'm worried whatever it is will spread.

I would look carefully for spider mites.

I don't see any webby stuff, or any mites through a magnifying glass, but I'm not entirely sure I'd know what I was looking for. I wiped the leaves with some insecticidal soap and will hope that takes care of things. Agh!

If the photo shown indicates that the blemish is both sides of the leaf it could be a snail or slug. mini "Garlic Snails" can cause similar looking damage. Rather like a lawn mower shaving the leaf. Try a general purpose spray oil (20mls) and meths (40mls) to a (Lt) of water

It is in fact on both sides of the leaves. Is "meths" methanol (methyl alcohol)?

Not sure if you would see mites with a magnifying glass unless it was magnified at about 500 times. They are very small on the digital microscope.

Good to know! I was trying to find a scale with any of the pictures, but failed. ^^;

Heh, I'm still not sure what caused the leaf damage, and the new leaves and new cane look fine, but I was just startled to find a little friend on the plant! Hopefully he'll eat any pests hanging around....
