All people need is alcohol, dawn soap and water. Works well. In fact I have been killing yellow jackets with this mixture. I use way more dawn than I would on my plants but it drops and kills a flying wasp. No need for all those toxic chemicals and expense.

"Control" means knock the population down, not eradicate. Just like you "control" bad behavior of a teenager, not eradicate it.
If you live in North America you are going to have spider mites return at some point or another. You will never kill them all, once and for all. As wintergirl said, soap and water works just fine, as does isopropyl (rubbing) or ethyl alcohol 70%.
Miticides are extremely toxic and extremely expensive. Veterinarians no longer recommend tick collars for dogs and cats because of suspicion of promoting lymphoma. Why risk that?

Found this on the web.
Anyone tried this on Orchids?
Kontos®
Greenhouse and Nursery Insecticide/Miticide
Kontos is a systemic insecticide from the tetramic acid class of chemistry (MOA Group 23). Kontos can be applied as a foliar spray or drench and controls a number of major sucking insect and mite pests, including adelgids, aphids, leafhoppers, mealybugs, psyllids, spider mites, spittlebugs and whiteflies. Kontos is both xylem and phloem active, meaning that the systemic activity moves upward and downward in treated plants.

Have you seen the price of that? $170 or more for 250 ml.

By the way, that 250 ml will make anywhere from 250 to 500 gallons of spray/drench, but what I have noticed is that folks are often taken aback by a purchase price alone, whether or not the per-application cost is significant.

Another update...I think I could manage the mite infestation on my den nobile. After this time, no more webs, markings on the leaves and a huge growth this summer (didn't stopped growing yet).
The treatment was the classis mix of dish soap, water and alcohol and lots of showers after each application.
The highest cane has 56 cm / 22 inch. Used a 200 ml shaving cream spray for comparison.

Good! Yay! I bought some diatomaceous earth (food quality) just in case. I heard that it works quite well. Anyone ever try that?

Well, here Imacloporid is 25 euros for 1 litre, and acaricides for mites not that much more.
OK; I know they are toxic, but that's the point. Spraying and washing plants over and over again is very time consuming.
