Robert, I've seen that before. I rescue a lot of orchids, too. I've seen it in the thick or hard leaf plants. A grower once told me it happens when the plant gets not enough water, then too much water or vise versa. It causes cells to burst in the leaf and then it's like scar tissue, I guess. Nothing ever comes of it, it just gets hard and stays an unsightly spot until that leaf falls off. If it is not soft or soggy on that spot, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't like poisons inside either.
