What happened to this violacea leaf? Female
Default What happened to this violacea leaf?

I've swabbed it with alcohol. No red dots (thinking mites).

It was under a light and on a heat mat for a while…could it be heat stress? And why are only one or two leaves affected? …it's been growing a new leaf that looks shiny and healthy.

It does have three drops of clear 'happy sap' or honeydew on the flower stem at the old flower nodes.

I'm getting mixed signals, violacea. I can't tell if you're happy or unhappy.

I thought it could have been due to low temperatures causing Mesophyll Cell Collapse some time ago, could be due to something else though I wouldn't stress too much so long as it doesn't progress.

That's very interesting. To me, the fact that it appears to follow the vascular pathways suggests some sort of attack - by critter or pathogen - rather than a cultural issue.

Another leaf is showing the same issue. All bottom leaves. The newest leaf, so far, seems fine, but this has me worried.

It is planted in sphagnum in a clear pot with side slits. When I pick up the pot there are teeny tiny black specks on my windowsill. Even with a magnifier or taking a macro photo with my camera I can't tell what these specks are. In one photo, when I zoomed in as much as possible, it looked like one speck had tiny antenna and maybe several legs, but that was one speck and the photo was so blurred by that point one wonders if it's simply imagination.

Any ideas if this might be a pest or what kind it might be?

hmm dunno but it does sound like an infestation of something. you could spray it with some systemic insecticide if your not against using it.

I would treat for insect infestation. I would start with an isopropyl alcohol 70% spray.

It is nice to have one of those digital microscopes in times like this. Whenever a leaf looks "funny" I can just look for pests that can not be seen with naked eye. You can spot problems before they spread. You could put it on those window critters too and see what there are. They are only around $15 on Ebay.

estación seca, I am making up some of Ray's cinnamon isopropyl alcohol spray. It should be ready tomorrow. There's not a lot of options in Canada. Has anyone had success with Safers End All?

wintergirl, yes, this would be handy.

Here's the pic I was talking about, cropped to show three of the speck critters. EW!
