The problem with boiling or baking is that it can take a very long time to heat nooks and crannies. If the mount fits into a pressure cooker, that would be a more certain way to do it. Would only take 5-10 minutes at pressure. Most surgical instruments are sterilized in a pressure cooker rather than an oven or soup kettle because it works so much better.

Agree completely.

For the mount in question, I'm assuming the main problem is bugs & the temperatures are high enough to kill those. I'm also assuming the mount is only to be used for re-mounting the plants that were on it. If not, then yes, higher temps are required, or just toss it.
