Bed bugs and orchids? Urgent help needed... Male
Default Bed bugs and orchids? Urgent help needed...

Hello from San Francisco Everyone...

I recently discovered that I have bed bugs in my bed and I may have to get my apartment fumigated... I'm waiting for an inspector to show up. I live in a small studio apartment, and the infestation seems mild, but I'm guessing they could have made it to some plants.

I'm very worried about what to do with my chids because I'm sure that they will not survive fumigation. . My heart is absolutely broken because I probably cannot give them to anyone else for fear of infesting their house with bugs... repotting all of them seems impossible because I'm sure I would miss a bug.

Please, please, please any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The pesticides used for bedbugs are similar to the ones we use on our plants, so I doubt your plants will have any trouble. Ask the pest control person the names of the chemicals to be used and look them up.

I doubt there is a serious concern, but a competent pest control professional should know if their treatments will affect houseplants in general, and there is no reason to think orchids would react differently than other plants. If they can't answer a question that simple I wouldn't want them spreading any pesticides in my home.

I spoke with a dear friend who told me that the plants can survive fumigation. I'm so relieved!
