Repotted my new orchids and found this in the old pot. (Didn't find any on my orchids, thank goodness.)

Are you in an area with Luna months or other large moths? It does not look like scale to me since scale needs plant tissue to live on as far as I know.

I'd say just some type of fungus that liked the moisture there. I've seen this scabby/scaley looking stuff on pots and it's easily removed.
