Ok, cinnamon washed off. Ready for surgery. Found more round brown spots on pseudobulbs.
None feel mushy…even in the brown areas. But what's going on? Why the brown spots? Despite the brown, to my inexperienced eye, the plant looks happy and healthy.

Also, beginner question here, should the roots be more free-flowing? They're quite a compacted ball in the centre around a foam-like brown mass (see first photo). Is this part of the rhizome? (Be gentle, I feel really dumb asking.)

So must I remove all pseudobulbs with the brown spot in centre?

If it not soft and mushy, dont need to remove it, but if you feel like removing it why not. You can just spray the entire plant with hydrogen peroxide and let it dry. Then pot it up.

I have a few spots on some of my Oncidium bulbs and it usually doesn't cause a problem. As said, if they aren't soft and mushy or seem to be growing, just put a little something like peroxide, rubbing alcohol or Listerine and they will likely be fine.

The roots look OK. Some have more rambling roots but it depends how it was grown. Maybe a bit of seaweed water will help them ramble.

Could the spots be caused by something pressing up against the bulb? I have recently put a few potato chunks in my plants to attract fungus gnat larvae away from roots. (Also just repotted everything [except this one it seems] because I was grossed out by the larvae.)

I guess it could if the potato turned rotten. But Oncidiums are prone to spotting. I can't explain why I get spots on leaves and sometimes on older bulbs.

The foam at the center is the growing medium from when it was a small plant. They just plucked the plug out of a plug rack and planted it in whatever pot you got it in. Don't worry about that stuff unless you can get it out easily.

Thanks Silken. Yes, there's some KelpBoost and fertilizer in the water in that cup.

Thanks No-Pro-mwa! I appreciate that. I was quite chuffed for a while because all my plants are spiking or have just finished (except one paph which seems slow growing, but is making its way with two [maybe three!] new fans--see then/now photos below), but with the gnats and then the brown spots I was feeling like a bad orchid mama/ grower.

…Thinking my 'chids are fine, but they all have a diaper rash!!!
