Default What the Heck is this bug??!!

Hi Folks!

Ok, I was out watering my Cymbidiums in the front yard and I noticed something weird on a leaf.

It looked like...a green triangle about the size of my fingernail. At first, I thought it was a fallen leaf, so I went to brush it away and it jumped!. I was so freaked out I jumped backwards and nearly fell over lol.

So, not only does it look like a triangle leaf, it has legs, and it hops!!! ACK!!

I haven't got a clue what it is. I have never seen any pest like it in my yard.
Anyone seen one of these things before?

No, this one is a little different.
Darn, it I wish I had gotten a photo of it before it jumped away. The bug in that photo is flat. This bug looks like a triangle that is standing on a point. It's creepy, it's like a triangle standing on it's side. But it jumps really fast, like a grasshopper.

Sorry DJ, I can't help you because I'm laughing too hard at the visual of you jumping away from it!

I say that with only love because it would be the same reaction here!!!

Did a Google search for Green insect, triangular and clicked on Images. There are a lot of pipcs you can look at to see if you find the monster!

I agree with Becca! That's the first thing coming to my mind when reading your post... Gorgeous members of the grasshooper group (Orthoptera) There some beautifull ones in Califormia

They can be of different sizes, shapes and colours, imitating different leaves types... from fresh green to rotten brown (even with fungis on it!)

here you can see some nice species Tettigoniidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The link also showes how different they can be... (but the diversity of the family is higher than what is shown in the Wiki )
