BROWN SPOTS ON LEAVES OF NEW CATTLEYAS
Default BROWN SPOTS ON LEAVES OF NEW CATTLEYAS

Several of new purchased Cattleyas have these brown spots on their leaves. The affected areas are soft and rotted. Any ideas? No visible pests (to my eye). Thanks for the help!

Looks like sunburn to me. Where have they been? How long have you had them?

I agree, it looks like sunburn. Cattleyas can handle fairly bright light but they need to be acclimated to it slowly. If the plant isn't accustomed to strong light, the leaves will burn. Put it in a shadier area.

Thank you for the feedback! These are brand new from Maui. They are in lowlight - about 1500 fc. in a artificial light setting - they had a bit of this out of the box. Just wanted to be sure I didn't need to quarantine!

I would still quarantine. Always a good idea to isolate new plants. Sometimes they are treated for a pest and appear clean and then in a week or two, the eggs hatch and there they are! Not to mention fungal and bacterial problems.
