Pests in your orchids???
I am a member of another forum-type thingie on facebook, and an interesting discussion popped up...To date, what is the most devestating pest you have encountered with your orchids?
Im just being curious, as some of the answers to the facebook pole were quite humourous!

Myself!!! I have killed and wounded many more orchids with my clumsiness, ignorance, laziness or morbid curiosity than any bugs ever will!
Other than me, slugs and snails are my plants' worst enemies. Darn things ate off all the growing root tips of my struggling plants literally overnight, then hid under a leaf so I couldn't find them for several days.

Spidermites and mealies. I hate them both. I dealt with mealies for about five years and, finally, a few years ago, curing the summer, natural predators must have gotten them all for they have been gone since then.
I had not seen spidermites for about fifteen years and then the spring of 2013-14, I received plants infected with them. I thought I had gotten rid of them but, this past winter, under lights, they were once more a problem. I don't see any sign of them on the plants currently so I hope that is a good sign.
I find it best to divide the plants into certain groups indoors to help prevent the pest problems. Some of my plants are resistant to certain things and some are more vulnerable.

Mealies and scale seem to be the bain of my existence!! I just trashed a few of mine when I bought them in from outside this fall. Both were hiding under p-bulb sheaths. Mean little buggers!

I will sometimes get these tiny fruit fly looking bugs I think they are Fungus Gnats. It is really annoying when I bring them in for the winter. Besides these annoying tiny gnats I don't get many pests.
Any tips of getting rid of gnats?
