I've got these in my orchids also and they don't seem to do any harm. I've put a pinguicula primulifflora in each tank and they are perfect food for the pings. The adventurous little bugs seem very attracted to the always moist ping media, I feel kind of sorry for them when they get stuck and slowly dissolve.
