Geographic pattern on leaf

[ATTACH][/ATTACH]I am a windowsill grower in Massachusetts. My most recent problem is a geographic pattern on a Blc Toshie's Magic which I have had for almost two years. The current problem has been present for about 2 months. It is only visible on the underside of the leaf.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I have decided to discard the plant to try to prevent similar problems in other plants. Thanks again.

I searched some and didn't find an example online that looked quite like this. I imagine you've already separated it from any other plants you have.

That is something I would test for virus.

I'm not saying it is but it's suspicious and I would either have to test it or just pitch it out because once I get the idea of virus in my head I can't let it go.

Is this a new(er) leaf or an older leaf? Most of the time virus will show in the older leaves and not the new ones. If you opt to test...use part of one of the oldest leaves as that's where you'll likely see the virus if it's there.

I'm not happy with your suspicion but I have also worried about a virus. I will consider either testing (if it's not too expensive) or tossing it. Thanks for your reply.

One of my cattleyas had a similar blotchy red purple pattern on its leaf. Virus tested negative, other members told me it was natural pigments. The newest pseudobulb is free of any irregularities, so maybe it's a one time fluke.

I like your comment better but my plant has such a distinct border between "normal" and the geographic pattern that I doubt natural pigments. Thanks for the reply.

You cannot test for all viruses. Your plant may test negative for the two major viruses and yet still be positive for another virus not tested for. Also, many times a new leaf will not show pattern signs until it ages.
