I have had this epi green hornet for over 1 year..it has flowered constantly for me ..but after a close inspection , a new growth bulb that has a new sheath ready to send out new growths has circular black marks only on that bulb . what course of action to prevent more of this from happening .
Thanks
Are the spots soft and wet in the center, or dry and hard? Are they spreading - either enlarging or becoming more numerous?
Bacterial brown spot is more often seen on leaves, but the dimple in the center appearance is one way it can look on thick hard leaf tissue, and I don't think there is any theoretical reason it couldn't infect a pseudobulb at the point of insect or mechanical damage. If it is dry and not spreading I think you can take a wait and see approach, but if the spots are soft and wet in the center that pseudobulb has to go.
By the way - the registration for Epi / Encyclia / Prosthechea Green Hornet was changed. It is now considered cochleatum x trulla. Double confusion here - lancifolium lost species status when it became considered a synonym of cochleatum, but apparently the plant used to make the original cross was actually trulla, another similar species. But there are probably some mislabeled ones out there too that were later made with plants labeled lancifolium that actually were a form of cochleatum.
Thanks for the clarification on the name ..as for the spots , they are not soft in the middle and this bulb has been mature to size for many months , the sheath has been on top and looks as though it wants to send up another spike but i figured growth cycle was waiting for the other to finish flowering..lol if that makes any sense .
I am just going to watch this closely as the other 5 have no signs of spotting .
