Clear sticky syrup on sharry baby!!
One of my oncs has some strange syrupy stuff on the spiked. This sharry baby has done well, and is almost continually in spike or flower, but I noticed recently that the newest spikes aren't budding. They are stagnant. So on closer inspection, I found this stuff on it, I sprayed it with Sucra Shield. I haven't noticed any improvement. Is this Thrips in this orchid?

Greenpassion can you pls post a picture of this sticky sap. What you have described seems to be 'happy sap' which usually appears on growing spikes. Most of the time, it's an indicator that your orchid is doing ok. It's sticky and if you taste it, it's sweet.

I agree with Mandy that it's happy sap but a picture sure would make it easier to diagnose. I worried much the same the first time I saw it.

Thank you for your replies, but then I have to ask: what are the indications of having "Thrips"?

I have never had that issue *knock on wood* so I don't know I am sorry. I have had scale and mites though and it was pretty horrible Hopefully someone will chime in who has ever had a thrips.
