Yellow and lots of black spots. Sun or fungus?

This has always had some spots, so its been in quaranteen all alone- but its been in a window with strong bright light. Not sure if its the sun or some fungus?

I've sprayed for mites and insects, flushed the pot first. Gonna let it be for a week or so, and repot. New growth also have spots.

Any idea what to do?

This leaf/spike/whatever doesnt seem to be very happy…


I usually keeps my orchid happy, but not this one. Moved it to a more shady place today. Hopefully it will get better.

Its not water, but can the sun make this damage even when its not wet?

I've been trying to read, but its not always easy seeing what is insect damage or fungus or sun or something else. Haven't much experience with this yet.


Edit: its wet in the picture cause I just sprayed with some insect spray, and mites- just in case.

The wavy growth is commonly seen in oncidium hybrids with not enough water or not enough humidity. This soft kind uses more water than most cattleyas.

Right but I think she was talking about the spots on her leaves. Those are from too much sun.

The spots look fungal to me and, unfortunately, this group of orchids tend to get this sort of problem. Actually, they are notorious for spotty leaves. It's unsightly but not all that harmful.

That wavy and wrinkled growth- I believed was the new growth😂 I didnt know it was supposed to be straight/not wrinkled. But: havent taken good care of this one- after seeing all the spots, I kinda left it in a window all by itself.

As Katrina mention- I think I have read it can be fungus (but it has been in really strong sun, so maybe a bad combo, dont know)- and I dont have any spray against fungus. Only mites and insects.
Can barely get decent nutrition in Norway for orchids…


But, I will try with less sun, and repot. Its not expensive, and bought it last year, so only trying to rescue it for experience.

Have another Ikea orchid from this year- seemed like it had some problems as well. But this seems like a bug or something?
Bought it because of the color, and the leaves are a bit thinner. Lol, but maybe the dark leaves are symptoms- cause all the buds blasted, then it made some new, seemes to be blasting. Flushed it, sprayed it- and today it flowered- guess it says "please dont give up on me yet"😎😂

Moral of the story:
If you buy something from Ikea, make sure you doesnt bring home more than you intended… I always leave the plants alone, just in case it got some problems…

The plant looks healthy, and is making good roots. The mushrooms are probably growing on the old bark. You probably should repot into new medium. The bud loss may be due to moving the plant from one environment to another.

I will be repotting later today, or tomorrow. I know I might blast the buds, but I think its stressed, and I would rather lose the flowers this year (not much left anyway), cut the spikes back- and get a happy plant that flowers even better next year😎👍

Its kinda small- so thinking of maybe using the coco-bark thingy. That will keep the moist a bit better, considering new bark dont hold much water- I'm thinking small bark, same size pot- maybe a tiny bit bigger- let it grow, and maybe repot again after a year?

Dont want moss with phalaenopsis- and I think the big bark will be to big for this plant. Takes forever before it keeps water well.

Coco fiber chunks can take a very long time to dry out. I don't garden in a cold-winter northern climate so I can't address what is your best medium.
