What is this?

This is a rescue NoID that never has done very well but this is new and came in very quickly, over the last few days. I don't think it's sunburn. I don't see signs of pests.

If it's not bacterial or fungal, it's a perfect opportunity for getting bacterial or fungal infection. If you can, cut away the dead leaf/leaves. Dust with cinnamon or sulphur. Keep the air flow up around the plant as well.

After a few days, when the cut has had time to heal, you may want to do a preventative spray with Neem, copper spray, or cinnamon spray. This would be more of a precaution.

Can't cut it away...there is only this leaf and a new one. Roots look good. I wondered if it was spider mites but I don't see anything with the loupe. I sprayed with insecticidal soap just in case and put it outside. We'll see.

Cut or not, I suspect that leaf will drop on its own fairly soon. Possibly a bacterial problem?

I don't know. That leaf was always limp since I rescued the plant. This damage is new and pretty fast moving. There is a spike (well, a nub) that I expect will die unless it's actually a basal keiki.

Whatever it is, it looks bad. cut it away.

Don't dream too much, if it's the only leaf, and there's this kind of damage, I guess it won't survive.

Certainly something fishy round the roots or a weather like condition issue (cold/wet).

You can always try, but cut that leaf, and check the roots ! If it is strong enough to recover and it'll be long if any chance of, it won't if it's rotting inside the pot.
