Fungus or Fertilizer salt buildup? Female
Default Fungus or Fertilizer salt buildup?

Hi Guys:

I just got this plant in 2 weeks ago, won at a society raffle! It was clearly repotted into fresh sphagnum moss, still somewhat green. It may have been in a greenhouse before, but when I took it home I hung it in my house on a north/northwest facing window. I've since watered it twice because it seemed dry in the medium and felt light. When I went to water it again, I noticed white along the tops of the medium. I'm a little nervous about this, because I don't know if it will damage the plant. So far, the plant looks unchanged from when I received it. When I water I flush first to get rid of old salts, then water with new liquid fertilizer, at 1/4-1/3 strength, Dynagrow and kelp to promote root growth in the new environment.

Some fungus on new media is very common. It will go away on its own.
