Raccoon ate the slug baits!
Default Raccoon ate the slug baits!

After I discover slug attack on my dendrobium out on my balcony the other day, I sprinkled some Sluggo Plus on the medium. The next day the baits were gone and some bark chips were outside the pot. So I sprinkled some more and today I discovered they are gone again with bark chips spilled out! Is it safe for the raccoons to eat the baits? I know its organic and pet safe and I want to get rid of the slugs, I don't want to poison the animals. Any suggestions?

I have not used Sluggo. What does the label say? You might also Google your question. Good luck in finding an answer.

I don't know if is safe for the raccoon's, but because of them I use beer to kill slugs and a sprinkle salt around my pots and that seems to keep them from getting to them (Salt kills them as well).

The beer I put a couple of saucers with some beer in them and the slugs are attracted to beer, drink it and go to slug heaven very happy Now clean up is some times unpleasant.

This reminds of an episode of the Simpsons where they start importing a species of lizard to wipe out the pigeons. And when the lizards start to become a problem, they have a plan to import lizard eating snakes. Furthermore, they plan to import snake eating gorillas to wipe out the snakes, and the joke is the gorillas aren't a problem because they'll freeze in the winter.

Sad. As a small, wild animal lover, I hope the little fellow is okay.

Copper pennies will also against slugs and snails. I use a product called Deadline. It's a thick paste that you use to squirt a line around the plant you want to keep snails and slugs away. That may work better than those pellets.

If its safe for pets, it should be safe for a raccoon so long as he doesn't make a habit of coming back for more.

It should have made him at least feel sick, so he should learn that it's nothing fun to eat.

I also vote for the salt and beer trick - raccoons would love the beer though because its sweet, dogs love it!

The descriptions I saw say safe for wildlife.

I use copper tape around the pot openings.
