Dealing with Root Bound Pests - How?
Exclamation Dealing with Root Bound Pests - How?

So I've seen and found lots of great info on dealing with external pests but what methods do growers use to control root bound pests, like mites, small flies, small white insects, slugs etc?

Recently I had to re-pot my cymbidium in particular do to slugs found in the media and small white bugs crawling through it. I also have to deal with the little flies a lot and am just not sure what to do...I watered with a gallon of neem concetrate mixed with water ( 3 tbsp) by gardensafe the other day to see if that would do the trick. I get the flys regardless or whether or not the media is fresh.

How do orchid growers deal with these issues?

Thanks!

The small flies may be gnats - if so, they're something that sort of comes with the territory when you grow water loving plants ... I have found that diluted insect repellant made from rosemary, clove, cedar oils help somewhat.

I don't know what the small white bugs in the media might be ...

I use slug/snail pellets to help with those pests.
