Catts like to dry out before being watered. The hard part is seeing if the centre and bottom of the potting media has dried. Try using a bamboo kebab skewer inserted into the centre of the pot. Leave it there and then when you think its time to water, pull it out and see if it wet or dry. If wet, it's too soon. if dry or maybe just barely damp in your hot season, then you can water. I have skewers in almost every orchid pot

Sounds good. There are a couple types of street food here in Thailand that are cooked on a skewer. No kebab, but chicken or pork flattened out and cooked over charcoal, so getting some skewers are no problem.
