Just yesterday there all of a sudden was a multitude of small black bugs with a white spot on either side crawling through the media on one of my phrags. Anybody know what these are, and if so, are they anything to be concerned about?
The bugs are really too small to get a good picture with my iPhone, but they are about 1 mm around, or even smaller. From pictures online the look like soil mites, which from my understanding are not harmful...
I have not been able to tell what these are either. They look like micro ladybugs...but that's ridiculous...if you have the same ones that I've seen then their tiny legs seem reddish in bright light. Any plant I have ever lost I cannot say it was due to them, and they didn't seem to have any immediate negative effects. They seemed to really like my kingianum a long time ago and it is still fine...doesn't like south Florida though. They are pretty much too difficult to photograph without a digital slr and even then you would need an expensive lens
You can use on of those digital "microscopes" on Ebay for under $20 and get pictures on your computer. You just put the probe in the area and you can see whatever you need to see. I have one and it's great.
