sick Phalaenopsis? one yellowing and one see-through leaf?
Default sick Phalaenopsis? one yellowing and one see-through leaf?

Hi! A friend gave me this orchid that she received as a gift about half a year ago. When I repotted it it was sitting in water from the original display case, and many of the roots were rotted. I cut and cleaned the roots and repotted it in a nice breathable container, but the leaves concern me. One is yellowing at the base, but still firmly connected to the plant, and the other is getting orange and see-through near the tip. Has anyone seen this before? any advice? Thanks! -Alyssa

In all cases, I'd say your phal is unfortunately a goner, it looks like and sounds like rot progressed to the point where your orchid isn't save able.

so I feared, thanks for the responses! Do you think cutting off the spike would help it conserve energy? or just stress it out. Even if it's a goner, I want to give it the best chances.

I would cut the spike. I guess no harm in trying. It may have gotten moisture in the crown causing the leaf to die from the base outward. I see some decent roots so it could always produce a basal keiki.
