What is happening to my orchids' leaves (2 plants)??? Female
Default What is happening to my orchids' leaves (2 plants)???

Happy Friday Everyone!

Sorry for the vague title but I'm having two different issues with two of my orchids and thought I'd just add one thread!

First, here's my phalaenopsis. I've tried growing it both indoors and outdoors on my balcony, but it doesn't seem to be happy. I'm assuming the wrinkled look is due to either over/under watering? Is this correct?

Now opposite situation with my dendrobium nobile. It seems to be fairly happy outside, but the new growth is starting to develop some discoloration? I have no idea what this could mean. Too much light?

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Not sure but maybe your media/roots are bad on the phal. We need more information I think. On the den, my guess would be a damp pot and cooler temps may cause the yellowing of the leaves.

The Phal looks under watered to me, either that, or bad roots.

Thanks for the feedback so far! I actually repotted the phal earlier this week in hopes of fixing the issue. It was potted in sphagnum moss pretty tightly, so I've changed it to a bark mix.

I placed the den outside when the temperatures got a tad bit warmer. Lately the temperatures have been between 60-70. The pot is wet since it has been raining recently, but is 65 too cold for it? Should I bring it back inside?

Your phal should do better since you repotted. On the den, if it was me I would bring in at night until warmer.

What did the Phals roots look like when you repotted it?

It's hard to tell with just a picture, but that looks a lot like mite damage on the Phal.

I hope it will wintergirl! I'll go ahead and bring it back in, just in case. Also, when checking it today, a new growth is developing on the other side of the plant!

Orchidgirl83, some of roots looked dry and wrinkled. I like to water my orchids throughly and let them sit in it for 10 min before letting the water drain. I kept all the good roots and placed sphagnum moss on the top to promote roots. I hope this will help.

Djf051, would these bugs be on the leaves too? Would you suggest I spray the leaves with hydrogen peroxide?

Thanks!

If you have mites you can wipe the leaves down with alcohol. If you have mites you can see reddish spots on an alcohol soaked paper towel/kleenex after wiping the back of the leaves.

Will alcohol hurt the leaves?
