Default Help identify disease on ionopsis.

My little ionopsis was not doing all to well as is and now I noticed this. Any idea as to what it might be? It does not seem to be getting better or worse, the dots are raised, seem like little scabs. I don't see any bugs or moving critters anywhere on it.

That's what I was thinking, but the last I've delt with scale they were distinct whiteish bodies, these are like little scabs. Only on the underside of the leaves. They don't scrape off.

I got something that looked just like this on a portion of my Tolumnia a week ago. The leaves fell off within a day but the rest of the Tolumnia, while not really thriving, hasn't gotten any bumps.

It didn't seem like scale to me, but I'm not sure. Hope someone who knows more can chime in...

I couldn't find any pictures of anything that looked like it either. In my case, I noticed one leaf going yellow, the next day it was brown and fell off as soon as I touched it, and I saw the bumps on the dead leaf. Then the other leaves yellowed and fell off. My guess is that my plant was weakened somehow and was deteriorating and then the bumps (whatever they are) were some sort of secondary infection.

Three of the original six parts of the plant are still hanging on--really not sure what is wrong with it.

The leaves on your plant definitely look healthier than mine did.

Hope you figure out what it is!

Oh wow!!! I had those on my paph sukhakulii when I first got it!
Well... At least it was similar.. Let me see if I can find a pic. I remember there were bumps that would barely come off. (I only tried picking them off on a leaf that fell off during shipping.)

ETA:
Is it also possible that those scabs are dried sap? Maybe from previous damage?
On one of my phrags I got, there were some dried orange areas, (mostly irregular shapes). I cleaned it off with alcohol and some of the orange rubbed off onto the paper towel. It was really dry and I could only get a little bit off.

Photo: http://flic.kr/p/qfkMtE it's hard to see, but it's like the leaf fell on concrete and got parts of it lodged into the leaf.

Thanks Wintergirl! That might be what we're seeing. I found great info here: http://www.staugorchidsociety.org/PD...t-ThaiCrud.pdf

I'm going to follow the instructions there for my Tolumnia.

It does look similar, though that very specific circular pattern has me sill guessing.
