Diagnosis needed for new Cleisocentron Gokusingii
Default Diagnosis needed for new Cleisocentron Gokusingii

Hello,
I just ordered a Cleisocentron Gokusingii and it came with nice healthy roots but some of the lower leaves have indented dark spots- which has me worried about a bacterial infection but I've never had an orchid with spots like this. I am hoping for some help diagnosing and treating this. I've also messaged the seller for their advice.

If the spots seem fast-growing I would suspect a bacterial problem.
If individual spots stay roughly the same size but there seem to be more of them over time, I would suspect a fungus.

If the spots are not getting bigger, and the number of spots is not increasing, I would suspect mechanical damage (no treatment needed)

These are rough generalizations, though.

Look for the link to fungicides & bactericides near the bottom of this page for remedies: Orchid Pests, Orchid Diseases

Thanks,
The seller recommended a 50/50 mix of elmers glue and cinnamon which I will be applying tonight. It didn't have spots when it was sent which makes me pretty worried (unless it got them on the trip here). he does have a lot of integrity and will send a new plant if this guy doesn't make it, but hopefully we can avoid that

Did it go though cold weather during shipping? It might just be cold damage. If the spots are hard and not mushy you might just wait it out. I have had cold damage that looks like black spots, they were dry and never softened or worsened.

It did- it had a heat pack and one day shipping, but that's a possible culprit- one good thing about the cinnamon home remedy is I will now easily be able to tell if it spreads.
I am so excited for this guy- he was really a splurge for me so I really hope that he can be happy! (and bloom pretty little blue flowers)
