Bacterial or fungal...or something? Female
Default Bacterial or fungal...or something?

Hi, recently I've noticed this yellow lesions appearing on dendrobium canes. At first I thought it was just mechanical damage, but under scrutiny I discovered, that once the lesion dissapears, it leaves a pit filled with necrotic tissue. What is it, and should I be concerned?

Here you can see the "injury" on the tip of the cane, and a small, yellow leasion on the cane directly under it,

this is what the lesion looks like (sorry for the poor picture quality), and the damage on the base of the cane.
Please help!
Ok, better pics?

Here rotted pit on the base of cane on the left, next pic the same damage bottom right,

Any takers on this one?

Some rot, perhaps ? Maybe water got trapped beneath the sheathy material while the cane was developing ... ?

Thanks, good guess, but this stuff appeared on new canes as well as old, and it seems to be spreading. I wiped everything with alcohol though...

Sorry, I have a few Nobile Dens but haven't seen this. If you have some Physan, you might want to use it and for sure isolate it if you haven't. They say brown Literine is an anti-fundal/bacterial as well and I have used it on my orchids before I got my hands on some Physan. I haven't ever seen Physan available in Canada in recent years. It can be ordered and brought across the border from the U.S. or at least that is how I got mine.

Thanks! Yes, we're eco friendly on this side of the border, so a lot of the "good stuff" got retracted from the shelves in recent years...If you think Physan20 would be effective, I'll just have to roll up my sleeves and make it at work.

Very interesting! Is it the same formula of active ingredients? I thought it was just a household cleaner.
