Gah! I noticed a few yesterday, got them with alcohol, and noticed 5 or 6 today. Everything got an alcohol spray today. My plants have all been inside for months now with no signs of pests, so I think the culprit must be the Christmas tree! I'll be waging war on aphids with rubbing alcohol for the next few weeks!
I will chalk that down as another benefit of having an artificial Christmas tree indoors and the fir outside, planted in the yard.
I hope you got them! Good luck!
My wife loves her Christmas tree so much that I'd happily battle aphids every winter. Rubbing alcohol is cheap. But it's good to know that I need to watch out! I wasn't expecting to see pests, so I wasn't really on the lookout. I just happen to sit and look at my plants a lot this time of year because under my plant lights is the brightest place in the house. Looking carefully for new growth revealed the invaders! Haven't seen any for two days Ave gave treated with alcohol anyway, so I expect to be able to control this outbreak.
Found two aphid molts yesterday and a handful of new, very small aphids today, so everything got hosed down in alcohol. If this round wasn't able to reproduce, I should be in the clear as the tree is now outside waiting for pickup.
