Cattleya leaf problem possible virus ?
Default Cattleya leaf problem possible virus ?

Hi everyone,
My Cattleya appeared with this on its leaf overnight.
Would anyone know if it is a virus or pest damage? and if it could be a problem ? I have separated it from the others for the moment.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It's possibly a virus but could also be insect damage. The plant looks like a Laelia, have you flowered the plant ??
It is possible to get it tested but I would keep it clear of other plants & see it flower. If its virus it will usually be very clear in the flower

Thank you, it was my late mums i have several of the same sort. I have not seen it flower as it has only recently come into my care. When are these due to flower you think? what would the virus look like in the flower? Also i have uploaded 2 more images, this afternoon i recognised one of the other leaves is showing changes also it appears to be crinkled/dehydrated appearance and the back of the leaf is showing a faint pattern.

any more advise would be great i will separate from the others from now.

It doesn't look like either virus or pest damage. I would suspect some sort of environmental cause, such as sunburn or exposure to cold.

Keep an eye on it, but I would not expect it to spread.

I have a few with similar problems due to me putting them outside and then having it get too warm. Sunburn has plagued me learning to balance giving them enough light and knowing when enough is enough.

I agree with Orchid Whisperer that it looks like sunburn. It also looks dehydrated and potted too deep in the first picture. The bulbs should not be buried, the rhizome where the roots come from should be on top of the medium.

I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't look to me like a virus or any kind of insect problem.
