It was invented as a disinfectant during the Civil War (US circa 1860s) prior to the invention of sulfa drugs. It does a fair job at killing various germs. The reason why you cannot use knock off listerine is because Listerine is made using a combination of three essential oils, menthol, thymol, eucaliptol. Many strong scented essential oils deterr insects. I just used oregano oil to treat my dogs for fleas. You could see the little buggers run for their lives.

Dub3, if hydrogene peroxyde did not stop rot either you did not left it long enough, renew it enough, or because the rot was way to deep to be sterilised by this way alone.

Please reread my post, i believe it was a tale of success if I didn't say that I'm sorry as I felt my treatment saved the plant from the trash can.
