Yellow & Black Leaf Fungus?
Default Yellow & Black Leaf Fungus?

Hi again -
A few days ago I sent a picture in this category and we all decided my orchid was fine. Now today I go to the greenhouse and here is what I found on that same plant! The leaf tip is the black part and the yellow went all the way to but not in the pseudobulb. I cut the bulb off too but it was green there - no rot. My first post was Sept. 4 and had sticky black in the title. All help is appreciated!!!
P.S.
I also isolated it again lol.

Is it the oldest leaf? Because individual pseudobulbs are not immortal and it might just be shedding it in the normal way. If it's a leaf that's half way up the rhizome or there's more than just a couple of leaves doing it that would be an issue. But from your post i'm still not convinced it's anything to worry about.

CP-
Thanks for the quik reply. It was on the oldest bulb with a leaf (had 2 bulbs with no leaves). I'll watch it very closely.

If it was a leaf on the oldest pbulb, it is probably time for the leaf to leave.

Orchid leaves as they die a natural death are ugly. No other way to phrase it except ugly.

I have an old one going that looks much like that at the moment. Yours looks almost ready to just drop off. If you gently try to remove it, it may just come away.

Thank you Brooke & Silken -
I appreciate you taking the time also as CP did, to read this and help. I hope it is an old leaf and yes they surely are too ugly! Hope you both have a great day.

Is this a cattleya?
Can you post pictures showing the entire plant and the pseudobulb that this leaf fell off from?

Also, can you describe how this happened?
Gradual yellowing followed by browning or browning right in the beginning? time it looked to go this far from the onset of the symptom, etc...

Yellow & Black Leaf Fungus?
Default Orchid Leaf

Hello NYC
Sorry I haven't been around to reply and appreciate your time and interest. I think I look at my chids to check their status a lot but this one slipped up on me. The plant was either just in the right place to hide the leaf or just in the wrong one for me to see it. It was a nasty surprise. Since then I have drenched with a fungicide and am hoping for results. I'm just learning to upload pics (only did it once) but I will try tomorrow. This is a Bayer systemic that I found locally so hope it helps. Quick question - Do I have to cut off all the bulbs and leaves damaged (I did cut some) or would it be okay to leave the ones with just a few spots of black? Thank you so much.
Barb

A picture of the plant would be helpful.
