MEALIES I HATE YOU!
There were small mealies on the flowers of my gorgeous Surf Song...I want to cry! I'll have to repot, I think, and Bayer her. BOO!!!

Repot. Toss ALL old medium. While the plant is bare root. treat with Bayer rose and flower, then repot in a medium that has been sprayed with Bayer Rose and flower. Repeat the treatments weekly, and do it in the very early morning before bees come out.

Oh, and bleach all pots this plant has been in, with an overnight soak in bleach water, keeping the pots completely submerged.

It's an indoor plant so no worry about bees. I'm just so grumpy since I thought I had beaten them...but this was one plant I know I didn't treat then bc I didn't see any evidence. Stupid.
When you say repeat the treatments do you mean spraying the potted plant (once I repot)?

You can't treat it inside with an insecticide. Spray the stuff outside. Set it outside to dry in a shaded area bring the plant back in when it is dry.
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Spray down all the visible surfaces of the plant with the stuff, let dry and then bring it back inside once it's dry. Really soak it too. Don't be shy.

Yes, I spray it outside. Unfortunately it's noon here but I put it under a container. I ended up spraying the flowers which makes me sad. I hope I don't lose them.

I'm sorry to hear about the mealies. Is this one of your newer arrivals?

Why go to so much trouble? If the plant were mine, I'd get some Merit, dip it in up to the top of the pot, and no more ANY TYPE OF BUGS! One teaspoon of Merit to the gallon of water...it's a systemic...Great stuff. Wear rubber gloves... BettyE

Nikki, no - it's not recent. But it was next to one of the plants infested last month - I didn't see any signs of bugs and sprayed it with alcohol only- seems that was a mistake. I only found bugs on the blooms so I guess that's good.

BettyE, because Merit and Bayer Rose and Flower are the same insecticide and mealies hide in the crevices between leaves and inside blooms, so the entire plant has to be treated.
