is this a springtail? These bugs are in every orchid pot i have ever found. I just looked closely at my new Little Green Apples pot and found them in that one too. they don't seem to do anything so i haven't tried to flush them out but just wondering.

one of these little buggers held still long enough for me to get a picture...the first photo of the pot and you can see the chunk of media on the right side that I took a real close shot of. there are two white stripes in the media, to the left of the lower white stripe you can see the bug with its legs and antenna..

Yes, they are springtails or at least extremely close relatives of springtails.

Harmless. But it might mean that there's something organic breaking down in that pot of yours.

It doesn't hurt to repot into good quality fresh media.

yeah - I have to buy more bark...and see if this guy needs anything else, its my new Den. I actually don't mind the little bugs - i figure they are helping me out by munching on the decaying matter in the pots and keeping the major decay to a minimum - and so far, so good - nearly every orchid i have is much happier after being neglected for most of last year while i was sick. they all need to be refreshed by now...
