I bought mokara today and it was directly exposed in sun. I asked the caretaker why no net and she told me that mokara blooms frequently if direct exposure but leaves have dark spots. So I checked almost all tge strap leaf orchids and it has dark spots and i believed her saying its not fungus or a problem just sunburn. But i want to ask the opinion of the hobbyist and grower here.
The second photo the lower leaves in the middle potion has a big black spot its not soft just discolored. All the leaves have tiny dark spots not sure if its from the sun. This is another photo.
If i put the orchide with partial shade will the keaves improve? The color is yellow green, it has firm leaves, good roots, blooms/spikes thought they have those unsightly spots and lighter color leaves.
You will not be able to remove the dark spots on the older leaves, but if the new growth continues to be clean, just accept the markings on the older leaves for what they are, sun or mechanical damage.
I agree. As long as the new leaves come out clean, I would not worry.
I do think those black spots in that most recent picture are of fungal origins.
I forgot the real name but it is often referred to as Thai disease or something. It shows up small diamond shaped black marks with brighter center, where the fungal fruiting body emerges.
Some people cover them up with nail polish to keep the fungal spores from being spread everywhere.
