Something is ailing my Macodes and I'm not sure what. Lost a lot of the older leaves over the last several weeks [just didn't get around to posting sooner]
Discolorations like this:
kept appearing on the leaves. Eventually the entire leaf dies off. Checked for mites [swabbed several leaves with an alcohol dampened cottonball as well as regular visual inspection] but didn't find any. Conditions haven't changed at all in my terr so at a loss as to what the probelm may be -- it was doing so well.
One of the stems looked like it may have been snail damage [cannot get rid of the &$@$#* things]. Haven't seen any real sign of munching on the leaves though.
It does look like mites to me, Don't forget -- mites aren't always red nor will you always see the webbing.
I will spray down with some dish soap every 3 days for 2 weeks. Also mist down your jewel leaves top and undersides every few days, I find it helps keep these nasty little insects off - besides they love the misting.
