Here's what I know about the orchid's background. My sister was home for the weekend because she had to move out of her college dorm room before she could move back into the dorm. So she came home with all her stuff on Friday, and then went back to her college yesterday.

Among her possessions were a "lucky bamboo" that she's had for a long time, and apparently a Phalaenopsis. I found the two plants just today, sitting in a bin under the carport, where they are shaded. Turns out my mom had at some point found them in the van and moved them out of the van because she was worried they'd get too hot, and my sister had forgotten about them before going back to the college.

So now I've got these two plants to babysit until we can get them back to my sister. I'm a bit concerned about the Phal, though.

It needs repotting because it's currently in really gross soggy moss, but that's an easy thing to fix. What I'm worried about is the look of one of the leaves.

I can also sort of see on the underside of the leaf where the light parts are. They seem slightly wrinkled on those parts.

Also, this is the only leaf that's like this. Could it just be sunburn, or is it more likely to be something worse?

I have another question, too. Here's how the moss looks (I haven't had time to repot the plant yet, and actually I need to check with my sister before doing so anyway)

Those little hair/fiber thingies coming up out of it. What are those? They almost remind me of cactus spines. Some of the overwatered, algae-ridden mini Phals I saw a while back at Home Depot had those too (although theirs looked uniformly like hooked cactus spines). Are they a kind of fungus?

No idea what is happening but hopefully someone else can help. I've never seen that on any of my phals.

Fibers from the moss because it has broken down. It's time to repot this plant.

I've seen marks like that on the leaves before, but it didn't seem to spread or cause a problem. Not sure the cause.

thats a healthy plant just needs some new media. not to worry until after you re-pot it. I use sphagnum but most seem to hate it.. Remember its not the media that kills the orchid, its the master

Awesome, thanks guys! I got the okay from my sister, and repotted it into a bark/sphagnum mix. I dunno how she is with watering, but personally I've found sphagnum to be way too much trouble for Phals (trouble as in ridiculous amounts of root death due to fear of overwatering) unless mixed with a substantial amount of bark.
